About the idea

When planning a new building for FLOWAIR a few years ago, we talked about how good it would be if the new building was at least as good as the previous one, i.e. 'a machine for FLOWAIR', perhaps even better.

One idea was to introduce art into the building, but we didn't quite specify what that meant. Some people thought of just decoration, some thought of something more - something more inspiring, because art should evoke emotions, cause the mind to be moved and make you think and reflect.

For me, ART is a further continuation of the industrial design process initiated at 'early' FLOWAIR. Initiating this process not only 'created' our products, but also caused a shift in thinking throughout the company. It has opened us up to things that are often invisible to other companies. Additionally, I am often reminded of the fact that our company needs to be driven by the ideas and values that we talk about and that we want to pass on to the world to change it for the better, wherever we can, and certainly in our immediate (human) environment.

Combining these two thoughts from the above statement I came across art. Contemporary ART seeks to anticipate, to show us the future, to give certain signals about values and ideas, to focus on various aspects that because of this very art now become meaningful. And even if art doesn't do this…. or if we don't see it in that way, the result of its 'touch', is a certain break from what we are doing at the moment. Art encourages us to reflect. Reflection, on the other hand, has an impact on our self-awareness and thus influences the quality of our lives and our actions in the future.

I would like a different (in everyone's understanding of course - better) life at FLOWAIR. Art can also be what gives us pleasure, relieves stress and gives us the opportunity to relax. Art - even silly art, even art that we don't agree with or that makes us laugh - helps us to stop, to detach, to find a new point of view. Life is completely different then.
